▶ CHARACTER
NAME: Harry Potter
CANON: Harry Potter
CANON POINT: directly pre death
AGE: 17
BACKGROUND: here
PERSONALITY:
Harry Potter is a character defined in part by tragedy. Since birth, terror has followed in his footsteps every way he turns — from his parents who died for him, to the Dursleys who abused him, his rough childhood speaks volumes to the man Harry grows up to be. Emotionally repressed, soft spoken, inherently broken in unfixable ways. Harry is notable for his tendency to bear the world on his shoulders, and his refusal to share that burden with anyone, lest they break their back. Life has taught him it's his duty to suffer, and that happiness is a brief, fleeting dream that sometimes comes to him just before things get worse.
He has a bit of a complex towards negative things — and is definable away from your regular YA novel main character, because he isn't necessarily optimistic. In fact, he's more inclined towards pessimism, instinctively set on believing the traits and powers he possesses simply aren't good enough. Whether that's his own lack of self-worth, or the daunting reality everyone sets into him about how incapable he is, are two points reaching towards the same ultimate goal. Doubt is sewn into the very fabric of Harry Potter, his confidence dulling in light of the overwhelming history that the Dark Lord reigns over his seventeen years.
However, this doesn't mean he's devoid of confidence entirely. Harry does in fact have a knack for getting himself into trouble, specifically when rebelling against things he believes are unjust. This might be the very heart of Harry as a whole — incapable of standing idly by while others are suffering, perhaps because no one ever stood up for him while he suffered — perhaps because suffering is so completely a part of him, that saving others from their pain is about the only thing he's capable of. He is witty and snappish, and incapable of holding his tongue even when it might serve him better.
Do to a rough upbringing, Harry is capable of enduring a lot. He is unfortunately used to being treated as an afterthought, and thus accepts a lot of harassment at the hands of others without too much complaint. He grows more into himself as time passes and he becomes a more powerful wizard, standing up against Draco Malfoy's bullying and eventually learning how to fight back. One thing Harry can't endure is being called a liar. In just about every book, there's someone there who disbelieves something Harry has said — from the entirety of the Ministry of Magic, to Dolores Umbridge, to Ron Weasley, there is a kind of anger that stews in Harry, which you don't frequently see from him. Being doubted is likely the worst thing that could be done to Harry, as someone who gets by on the notion of proving himself, every day of his life.
What might be the single most definable trait in Harry Potter, is his selflessness. This is a boy who's destiny was written into the very flesh above his eye — who was destined for great things before he was ever even born. He doesn't doubt his part in things much greater than him for a moment, dedicating himself to a cause against the Dark Lord not because it's demanded of him, but because it's the right thing to do. Harry has a very strong sense of self and his beliefs, ultimately defined as a very brave boy, who even sacrificed himself for the cause.
It is about the only thing he would sacrifice though, frequently refusing help and his friends putting their lives on the line. Voldemort himself claims Harry has a weakness for heroics, generally meaning that he would go to immeasurable lengths for what's right, but wouldn't allow others to go half as far. This does make his friends frustrated with him at times, but it also means that every death in the series weighs on him as heavily as you can imagine — if he were somehow better, or somehow more, maybe Sirius Black wouldn't have died, or any of the other members who laid down their life in the name of protecting Harry, and bringing a stop to Voldemort.
Harry's ability to love unequivocally is his greatest strength. The love he has towards all his friends and loved ones is singularly the strongest part of him, that which pushes him to great lengths and allows him the chance to overcome innumerable difficulties. It can't even be held as a weakness — for as however many times people have tried to exploit this vulnerability and seed doubt into the relationships he holds dear, Harry's only response is with unfounded loyalty and faith placed in his loved ones. It's certainly the best bait for him out there, though — even aware of a likely trap Harry still plunged headfirst into danger when he believed Sirius Black's life was at stake. Harry is aware of this particular trait of his, but he doesn't see it as a bad thing. Rather, it's one of the few things that clearly define him as different from Voldemort — the love in his heart, and the headstrong, impulsive drive to protect it.
Despite what can be read into Harry, about how infallibly kind and human he is, he does have a darkness in him that comes out when his loved ones are hurt or killed. He even tries to cast the Cruciatus Cruse on Bellatrix Lestrange after her murder of Sirius Black — one of the three Unforgivable Curses, named as much because they are the worst spells you could cast. Harry is of the mindset to never forgive, never forget. People who would do harm to his friends are as bad as the Dark Lord himself, and Harry has no real issue enacting his revenge even in the most harmless of places, i.e. being a little bit of a snarky bastard whenever Severus Snape bullies him.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Harry is a wizard, and has magic to match. The magic in canon is a wide array of different schools, such as Divination, Astronomy, Arithmancy, etc. Since Harry went to a wizarding school he's trained in all the different kinds of magic, and while he is a pretty exceptional student, he specifically excels in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, Potions, Transfiguration, and Herbology. It's worthy to mention, that while wizards generally use wands to control their magic, Harry is capable of using magic without his wand, but only in times of great emotional peril.
Alongside being a wizard, Harry is also a very skilled Quidditch player. It means he's mastered broom riding, and has it frequently mentioned that it's what he's best at.
He also knows Parseltonge, and can speak to snakes.
INVENTORY:
- his wandat his taken canon point, it would be broken in half. is it possible to say it was fixed upon arrival? if not — is it possible to fix it in game?
- his invisibility cloakif this is too op, i could suggest maybe having a time limit on the cloak, along with a recharge period? if not, it's perfectly fine if he just doesn't have it.
- firebolt ( his broomstick )completely fine not to have, if this counts as a vehicle — i imagine it'd be easy anyway to scrap up the materials to make one, or even recycle an already made broom within prisma.
- a sneakoscope
- a golden snitch*in the scope of canon, the snitch would have the resurrection stone inside it, which i only mention in the effort of full transparency that i do not want it, i just want to force people in game to play quidditch with me.
- a photo album*
- the marauder's map ( nonfunctioning )*
* these are inside a mokeskin pouch that Harry was given, which is used for storing items that only the owner can take back out. it's like the tardis, where it's bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside.
MOONBLESSING: Sanguis.
